Fly Fishing Report for the Upper Delaware and Catskill RIvers

There is very little change in the river conditions since yesterday. The Big news here is that the big ball of fire in the sky is visible. We are expecting a sunny warm day.

This should push all of the spinners remaining in the trees to the water today. Heavy spinner activity started last night towards dark and it should continue today. The only other change yesterday was the appearance of the first few sulfurs of the season. During the late afternoon I saw a few, (4 or 5) taking off from the water.

The photos are Mike G looking buff with some spinner eating Brownies.

We also had some decent action early in the day with both Streamers and Nymphs. The little guy below bit off more than he could chew.

If you are getting out on the water you should have Comparaduns, Knock Down Duns, Cripples and Hackle Spinners. These flies should be specific to the following species that are now on the water. Hendricksons, Blue Quills, March Browns, Sulfurs. There are alo lots of Caddis on the water at this time. There are still Apple Caddis along with many others in various sizes. I especially like our Shop CDC X-Caddis with the Peacock Body at this time. Late day it is a spinner game and you should have from # 10 to #18 Hackle Wings to cover all the sizes on the water. Yesterday we dis encounter pods of fish that were totally keyed in on the smaller Blue Quill spinners.

WE have all of these patterns in the shop at this time. Make sure you stop in before hitting the water.
