Fly Fishing Report for the Upper Delaware and Catskill Rivers
Decent Fishing throughout the River System Over the weekend the Baxter House guides put a lot of time on the water. Several of us were doing 2 trips per day. Since my last report our guides have fished both Trout and Smallmouth Bass and covered lots of river miles. Overall the fishing is good. The main reason is the cooler nights and recent rainfall. The Trout are more active since the water temperatures dropped into a more suitable range. Over the weekend our trout trips ha

WEEKEND OUTLOOK This weekend should offer us fly fishermen some good opportunity to chase Trout again. The recent heavy rainfall has all of our rivers still running at much higher than normal summer flows. The rain that cam through was also accompanied by much cooler night time temperatures which have all of our rivers running cooler than what is normal for the last week of July. Currently all of our trout rivers are having water temperatures in the low 60's. The higher, cool

High Water Summer Streamers
Now's your chance to toss big meat for big fish in the Summer sun. Normally this is an early or late season event however the last storm has put a lot of juice in the upper stretches of the Delaware system. We have been throwing 6 to 9 inch streamers for monster fish. 22+ inch browns have been demolishing the big flies and we have been very happy to see this. 8 weights and heavy tippet allow us to bring these monsters to net. This is a rare event mid summer and you should

Night Fishing on the Upper Delaware River
Night Fishing on the Upper Delaware River Over the past few weeks the days have been long and hot with less bug activity than the spring hatches. The trout are tough to catch during the day even for an experienced angler, however don’t let that stop your pursuit of big trout. Night fishing is not for everyone. It’s dark and dangerous. Don’t go alone and only fish water that you know. Mice and frog imitations work well at night. Cast directly across a slow pool and slowly…

There is no better place to spend a hot day than out on the river so here are your options for fishing. Trout fishermen who plan on fishing in the coming days should be aware that a lot of the system has very warm water. The options for chasing trout at this time are the Upper East Branch, The West branch and the Headwaters of the Beaverkill and Wi

DELAWARE SMALLIES The hot sunny weather continues it's grip the Upper Delaware region. Currently we are chasing Smallmouth Bass pretty hard and limiting our trout trips to the upper sections of the East and West Branches. Yesterday Guide Zach and I had the Moore Family out for some Smallmouth fishing on the Main Delaware. They mixed it up with some spin and fly and had a great trip. The action right now is really good. The waters are warm and the fish are in high gear. Many

Surface Action for Smallmouth Bass is hot! Over the last few days all of our guides have been busy. We have been fishing the East and West branchs for Trout but most of our trips have been focusing on Smallmouth Bass. The action is almost totally on the surface now. THE REPORT - First

Weekend Update The last week brought the Upper Delaware some unpredictable weather. Small cold fronts passed through the region most every day bringing us fast passing but heavy thunder storms. This weather has changed the river conditions but there is a pretty big difference from section to section. The most stable and predictable at this time is the Main Stem. It has been on the rise and much higher than last week. This will continue as long as the storms persist simply be

WEEKEND OUTLOOK The photos in this post are from guide Matt's trips this week. Mostly on the West Branch Delaware. The Report The Upper Delaware has gone through some major changes in the last week. Summer has it's grip on the region now and the regular rainfall that was present all spring has disappeared. Currently most of the river system is warm with a few exceptions. For Trout fishing the only areas that are fishing well are the West Branch and Upper Main Stem. The Upper
