Upper Delaware River Fly Fishing Report

EXCELLENT FISHING CONDITIONS Today's report will be brief. The river conditions, insect hatches and water temps are perfect for trout to be active and aggressive. This is accurate in about every river in the region. It's BIG BUG time and the Trout are looking up. Our photos will finish off today's report. For more details on conditions please refer back to my last report. All photos are from yesterday and only from 3 of our guides. Every guide has reported similar action over the last few days. All the trout in the photos were taken on DRY FLIES! CALL US TODAY TO BOOK A TRIP! 607-290-4022

More Rainfall, Big Bugs = Great Fishing Conditions Yesterday some heavy rainfall fell during the late afternoon. This has our local river on the rise again which is good for the fishery. There is a chance of more rainfall this afternoon. It is thunderstorm season here and these brief storms can pop up about every afternoon. The Big Bugs are on the water. March Browns and Green Drakes are on the water. I started seeing the Green Drakes last weekend. Most of the initial sightings were during darkness and from the smaller tributaries. Over the last 2 days however I have seen more substantial emerging from the bigger water. Right now there is sporadic activity of these big boys on the East and B

Weekend Outlook - Lots of Options Over the last few days the river flows around the Upper Delaware have continued to drop their flow rates. For the first time this season both wade and drift boat anglers have decent access to the water. At the current flows we are now finally able to fish streamers, nymphs and dry flies and see results with each technique. Thus far the insect hatches have kept pace with the high water and cold weather. The hatches are at least 2 weeks behind normal and the best fishing is just getting going. All of our rivers still have very cold water temps for the date and no really warm weather has hit our area yet. The next month should bring us some explosive action. A

DRY FLY ACTION In the Upper Delaware Region we are now entering the prime time for dry fly fishing with big bugs! The daily hatches are reliable and the Trout are rising in most areas. Our guests are doing great every day now. Visiting anglers can expect to find a pretty good variety of insects around our local rivers. Right now the following hatches are available for the trout. Blue Quill, Hendrickson, Quill Gordon, Olives, March Browns, Sulfurs, Stoneflies, Apple Caddis and several other Caddisflies. All of these insects are available but a few species are relevant to only certain river sections. Our guides are still focusing their attention to the remaining Hendrickson / Quill activity si

More Rain and Cold Weather The early spring conditions continue in the Catskill Mountains and in the Upper Delaware River System. All of our rivers remain on the high side and the water temperatures are cold. This is great news for the Trout and Insects. Not so much for wade fishermen. Anglers with drift boats are enjoying good fishing when the cold driven rain is not testing your sanity. All of our guides are on the river daily now. Each day we cover a lot of river miles and our guides have been fishing every local river. Throughout the system the first hatches of Blue Quills, Quill Gordon's, Hendrickson's and Apple Caddis are getting spotty. The emergence is pretty light now in most place

A big brown taken with guide Matt Hackett The Good Dry Fly Action Continues! I have not posted in a few days. We've been very busy with group trips heading out and my morning time has been limited. Since my last report not much has changed other than the sun came out a bit and the river flows are falling. The Hendrickson Hatch is on in most areas of the system and the trout are feeding every day. Our guides have been netting some impressive trout for our guests. The shots below are from guide Rich McCombie's trips The forecast for the next 5 days looks typical for the mountains. There is a chance of sun, clouds and rain. No major rain is predicted at this time. The fishing has been best duri

WEEKEND OUTLOOK The dry fly fishing is excellent! Yesterday the Apple Caddis emerged by the millions to join the Hendrickson's in blanketing our local rivers. Our guides were spread around the system yesterday and all reports are that the incredible insect activity was everywhere. If you are planning to fish this weekend Apple Caddis, Hendrickson's and Spinners should be the patterns you stock up on. Streamers are the best option for the non hatch period but there is not much non hatch time in the afternoon. There is a chance of some passing showers today but no heavy rain is expected. The forecast is for 1/10 of an inch which will have little effect on area rivers. This weekend anglers will
