Fly Fishing Report for the Upper Delaware and Catskill Rivers

More Rain Yesterday The autumn air has our local trout active and there are plenty of insects emerging to bring the fish to the surface. This is great news for anyone with a drift boat. The big question for wade anglers is when will the rain take a long enough break for the river flows to drop to fish-able levels. Yesterday was not the day as more heavy downpours hit the region just before dark. This most recent round of rain fell on already high water and quickly raised it even higher. This morning turbidity and heavy flows are the story everywhere. It will take a few days for the water to drop back to where wading is possible. The first places that should offer some wading will be the Will

Free Fishing Weekend! This weekend NY State is offering another free fishing weekend. No license will be needed this Saturday and Sunday to fish throughout the state. The weather may be a bit wet as there is very light rainfall today and tomorrow is forecast to be similar to today. Overall not much rain is expected. The prediction is for about 1/10 of an inch. If that is correct we are looking a a misty day. Sunday is expected to be nice sunny weather. Right now anglers can expect to find action with Dry Flies, Nymphs and Streamer flies. The Dry Fly fishing is reliable every day. The video below shows some recent action. The regular rainfall this September has all of our rivers far above the

Mid September Action Over the last several weeks the Fly Fishing conditions have continued to improve. Fall is in the air and recently our weather has ranged from pretty cold to hot and humid. There is some color change in the mountains and leaves are already falling. Yesterday leaves were falling all day. Right now anglers can expect to find action with Dry Flies, Nymphs and Streamer flies. The Dry Fly fishing is reliable every day. The video below shows some recent action. The regular rainfall this September has all of our rivers far above their normal historical flow rates. The latest round of rain which began yesterday afternoon and continued through this morning should spike the rivers

WEEKEND OUTLOOK All Upper Delaware and Catskill rivers are bank full from the recent bands of rain that have been moving through the region every day. The Baxter House fishing guides have been very busy since most river sections are best fished by boat at this time. After yesterdays heavier rain wade anglers will find their options limited to the Willowemoc, Beaverkill and Upper East Branch this coming weekend. Everywhere else is above the threshold for safe wading. With that said, anglers should be careful since the rivers I mentioned as fishable are still in high water conditions. For anglers fishing from Drift boats it's game on! Give us a call today to check on open dates for your next f

Heavy Rainfall and rising Rivers Yesterday heavy rainfall moved through the area and dumped a lot of water in our region. Our rivers are on the rise again. Today options are slim for wade anglers. Drift Boat anglers will have full run of the system. I expect to see good streamer fishing over the next few days, especially while the water has turbidity. This morning the Main Delaware has tripled in flow. The hot dry fly action we have been having on the Main Stem will be on temporary hold for a few days. below is another fish from the weekend. We had non stop action on dry flies The Beaverkill and Willowemoc are high and off color. It should take 2 to 3 days to get them back to good fishing

Out of the fog comes Mr. Brown WEEKEND OUTLOOK This weekend anglers visiting the Upper Delaware and Catskill Rivers will find good conditions all around. Just about all of our local rivers are wadable and fishing well. Overall angler pressure is very light. Over the last 2 weeks I have been floating full days with the majority of the river being void of humans. There is good insect activity around the system but there is a big difference in activity on each river and section. The best dry fly action remains on the Upper West Branch and Upper East Branch. On these sections the daily hatches are reliable and the fish are in a daily pattern of feeding whenever insects are present. On overcast

Good Fishing Continues The good fishing around the Upper Delaware and Catskill Mountains continues. Our guides have been out every day and during the past week we have floated just about every river beat in the system. Here are the details. The Beaverkill, and Willowemoc are in perfect condition for wade anglers. Fishing pressure is non existent. This week anglers have been doing well in both rivers. Currently dry fly and nymphing ar the best tactics The fish are around the deeper pools and the fast water sections above and below these pools. The Upper and Lower East are wadable as well. The insect life and overall fishing is best in the Upper River. This past weekend I had fish on the surfa
