Heavy Rainfall and Cooler Weather

Yesterday a cold front moved into the Upper Delaware Region. We had stormy weather and some substantial rainfall for most of the afternoon. This morning all Upper Delaware rivers have a slightly increased flow and cooler water temperatures. Tonight we are forecast for a cold overnight with air temps around 45 degrees. This should finally give the Trout in our freestone rivers a break form the very hot and dry summer weather.

Over the weekend our guides were on the water with guests. Our trips continue to be split between Smallmouth Bass and Trout fishing on the tailwaters.

Now is the time for Smallies! Through the remainder of the summer we should have the best action with these exciting game fish. All of our recent trips have been heavy on the catching. Our guests have been having steady action on both light spin tackle and on fly rods. Guide Rich had a trip on Saturday where they took lots of 15" to 17" fish on streamer flies.

The action for Trout remains decent at this time. The only options for trout remain on both the Upper East and West Branches. This is where the cold water is and it is the only place to practice catch and release fishing at this time. I am hopeful that this weekends weather will be the beginning of a cooling trend that stays with us.

I had Dr. Bob out for the weekend and overall we had some incredible fishing during some crazy weather changes.

We had good action but you had to work for it during the hot sunny weather. We were able to pick away at nice fish on Nymphs and Dry Flies. Once the rain came and the sky turned dark it was game on with streamers. We had non stop chases and strikes on a few different Baxter House custom streamer patterns.

On Sunday we had well over a dozen nice fish on the streamers and by days end we put a half dozen 18" to 20" trout in the net. The photos tell the story of the weather and the action!

Over the coming weeks we can expect the Trout fishing to improve with every cooler day that passes. We can also expect for the dry fly fishing to become less technical as the waters cool and some larger insects become more active.

We are now taking bookings for the both trout and smallmouth bass trips. Anglers looking to fish for smallies should take advantage of the next few weeks while the Main Delaware is still very warm. The great action for smallies usually lasts until about mid September.

We are booking Trout trips from the present through November at this time. The prime dates for fishing the heavy Blue WIng Olive Hatches in October are starting to fill up.

We are also taking advance bookings for Salmon and Steelhead trips to the Salmon RIver and Lake Ontario Tributaries as well as Salt Water fishing on Floridas west coast for Snook, Redfish and Speckled Trout.
