Upper Delaware Fly Fishing Report

More Rainfall, more big Trout!

The gray days and rain continue. We are forecast for more gray days for at least through the weekend.

The steady but light rainfall over the last few days has really improved fishing conditions throughout the system. During our recent float trips yesterday there has been water coming down the mountain everywhere.

Over the coming days anglers can expect to find mid to high water conditions everywhere except the Upper East Branch which is still pretty low. Currently there are varying levels of turbidity. Anywhere you find several tributaries in an area you will find the turbidity. As always the best action was around the turbidity yesterday.

We are forecast for continuing light rainfall today. We can expect the rivers to stay pretty steady with the current forecast. The rivers should return to crystal clear about 24 hours after the rainfall ends.

If you are planning on fishing in the coming days bring a variety of flies. Currently there is action on Dries, Nymphs and Streamers. The best action is on the surface.

At this time Main Stem Trout are totally keyed in on big March Browns. Now is a great time to prospect the moving water with our March Brown Cripple patterns.

Anglers can expect to find every early season Mayfly on the water at this time. There are also March Browns and Some Sulfurs on the Main Stem. Yesterday there was a very heavy hatch of Sulfurs on the slower Main Stem pools.

The Tailwaters, Beaverkill and Willowemoc are still mostly Blue Quills, Hendricksons and Caddisflies. March Browns are starting to make an appearance in some places.

The Bug action on the West Branch is insane at this time, so is the fishing pressure. Over the last few days the insects are totally covering the water. The photos below were taken yesterday on the lower West.

Our guests are doing best with our custom patterns. Over the last week our CDC Knock Down Duns, Mayfly Cripples and Hackle WIng Spinners have been killing it. We have plenty of these patterns in the Fly Shop so stop by before heading to the river.
