Upper Delaware Fly Fishing Report

THURSDAY

Due to schedule changes I now have several openings. The open dates are Monday 4/25. May 28, 29, 30. If you would like to take one of these dates give us a call today 607-290-4022. We also have plenty of openings with our guide staff throughout the prime spring season.

I apologize for the lack of reporting over the last few days. I traveled to a Long Island Trout Unlimited meeting on Tuesday night and I am just getting back on my regular schedule.

The good fishing continues. The big news at this time is Spinners Everywhere!.

Over the last 2 days the Mayfly emergence of Quill Gordons and Hendricksons have continued with huge spinner flights joining the hatch in late afternoon.

Yesterday I had my buddy Andy out for his weekly trip and he really kept his rod bent during the heavy spinner fall. In the pool we set up in there were sipping Trout everywhere!

Our other guides were spread around the system yesterday and reported similar action. At this time there is really no bad choice of location in the Upper Delaware.

A nice one from Guide Zach's Float

This week we have continued warm weather forecast. There is rainfall in the forecast for tomorrow but it is expected to be light. This will probably spur all day action. The rest of teh weekend has a great fishing forecast.

All of our rivers are in excellent shape at this time. All rivers are bank full and the water temperatures are great for both insects and Trout.

The best action is still from 3:00 pm until dark. The tailwaters have been getting going a bit earlier and the freestones a bit later. The best action with the insects comes from slower water with medium to small bottom gravel. In most instances the tailouts of the pools have been best.

Anglers can expect to see Apple Caddis, Blue Quills, Hendricksons, Quill Gordons, Stoneflies and small Caddisflies. Spinner activity is now excellent daily.

Our best patterns on the surface by far this week has been knock down duns and our Hackle WIng Spinners. Yesterday we fished the spinner from start to finish. The ephemerella family of insects has a very high mortality rate during the hatch and the fish key in on the spent looking duns.

If you are planning on fishing this weekend stop in the Shop. We are fully stocked with the best local fly patterns. We are also closing out a lot of Fly Tying materials at up to 50% off.
