Upper Delaware Fly Fishing Report

Please note - During yesterdays heavy winds and rain the Baxter House phone lines went down.. We have no idea when they will be fixed. Please use 607-348-7497 to contact us.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK

This morning we have clearing skies and the winds are gone. All Upper Delaware rivers are at high water conditions this morning. All have crested and are starting to recede but it should be a slow trip back to low water.

This is good news for the system as flows were way too low for April.

Anglers can expect turbidity for the next day or two. How bad will depend on where you are and how close you are to tributaries and areas of river bank destabilization.

This high and turbid water is just what we love any time of year. We should have a great opportunity in the coming days to target large Brown Trout on streamer flies.

I have openings for float trips from tomorrow through next week. If you want to get out give us a call at 607-348-7497

The forecast for the weekend is for cold temperatures to persist. It most likely will remain below 40 degrees before warming up on Monday. Next week we should have more spring like temperatures and nice fishing conditions.

For the next few days Streamer fishing will be the most productive method for taking trout.

Anglers who plan on fishing will find falling water conditions and based on the current flows most of the Trout will be in or near their normal lies in the river.

In these conditions it is best to stick with Baitfish imitations that trigger the predator to prey response. Streamers in the 3" to 5" range will draw the most attention at this time.

My favorite colors in thee conditions are Olive and Black. My favorite rig is always a 2 streamer rig with the larger fly at the bottom and a Baxter House Bugger or small Zonker on a teaser about 18" in front. This rig always draws attention!
