Upper Delaware Fly Fishing Report

Over the last 48 hours we finally had some rainfall that moved the Stream gauges.

The rain really came down hard a few times durinmg yesterday afternoon and evening. This morning all Upper Delaware rivers have increased flows and the conditions look good. The higher water should spread the boat traffic out. Today boat anglers will have far more options than they have had in the last 2 weeks.

The Upper Delaware rivers are now fishing well with low to mid water conditions. The insect hatches are reliable and the trout are feeding well especially towards dark. Last night on the section of water where I had my guests we had a heavy spinner fall of March Browns that caused heavy feeding. There have also been huge emergences of small sulfurs right at dark.

Over the next few weeks the larger insects will continue to emerge. We should start to see some Green and Brown Drake hatchess around the 25th give or take a few days. There has already been a few Green Drakes about but not in any numbers.

Below are a few shots of yesterday's action. All of our guests had another great day of fishing. On my boat we had good fishing on both nymphs and dry flies!

River Flow Table

Beaverkill - 319 cfs.

Wilowemoc - 252cfs.

Upper East Branch -194 cfs

Lower East Branch - 795 cfs.

West Branch -611 cfs.

Main Stem -1940 cfs.

Currently there are Hendrickson's, March Browns, Sulfurs and more emerging from all Upper Delaware Rivers. There is good spinner activity every night.

BEAVERKILL AND WILLOWEMOC

Both the Beaverkill and Willow are fishingwell. Both got a nice boost in flow from yesterdays rainfall . Both rivers have excellent wading access at this time and there is very little angler pressure on these waters. At this time the Beaverkill and WIlloemoc are a good choice.

March Browns are starting to show up in places and a few sulfurs should be about late in the day. At this time a rusty spinner is a great choice for any fussy fish.

Anglers should nymph early and start looking for risers in mid afternoon.

The nymphing is excellent.

EAST BRANCH

The East is in much better condition today. The rainfall was really needed on this river. Today anglers should have nice nice fishing.

The Upper East still has some Hendrickson / Blue QUill Activity. There are also caddisflies and March Browns. There should be some Green Drake activity in the very near future.

The Lower East is now looking good for at least the next few days. The lower east should fish well as it is great habitat for March Browns.

WEST BRANCH

The West is much higher this morning. The West Should start to see boats again today.

The insect activity is very good and this river should be bug soup for the next month. Anglers will easily find rising fish at this time.

Angler activity will also be at it's peak over the next month and with the greatly reduced amount of water the Trout are in for a beating. This river really needs some rainfall or an increased release from Cannonsville.

MAIN STEM

The Main Stem got a nice boost of water last night. The fishing should improve with the increased amount of habitat.

The Upper River is a daily parade of drift boats especially on the Buckingham stretch. The water temperatures are good and the trout are rising.

The insect life has been incredible over the last 10 days or so. Both the insects and Trout are now fully established in their daily routines.

March Browns, Sulfurs and Olives are on the water in solid numbers. Yesterday our guests were treated to the heaviest spinner fall of the year. There is also a good amount of Stoneflies and Caddisflies about.
