Upper Delaware Fly Fishign Report

MONDAY

Due to schedule changes I now have two openings in April. The open dates are Thursday 4/21, Monday 4/25. If you would like to take one of these dates give us a call today 607-290-4022

Over the weekend the good fishing continued for our guests. Our guides were spread out on several different river sections and all did pretty good.

This week we have continued warm weather forecast. There is no rainfall in the forecast at this time.

All of our rivers are in excellent shape at this time. All rivers are bank full and the water temperatures are great for both insects and Trout. Over the next few days of warm weather we should start to see some dropping water. Below are the current flows

Beaverkill 543 cfs

East Branch Upper 252 cfs

East Branch Lower 998 cfs

West Branch 606 cfs

Main Stem 2200 cfs

Over the weekend the only major changes to the current conditions is the appearance of the Apple Caddis and big Spinner Falls. The prolific Apple Caddis is now on the water especially on the Main Stem. These insects will work their way up the system over the next 2 weeks or so. These insects really cover the water and the Trout will feed on them during the initial days of the hatch.

The best action is still from 3:00 pm until dark. The tailwaters have been getting going a bit earlier and the freestones a bit later. The best action with the insects comes from slower water with medium to small bottom gravel. In most instances the tailouts of the pools have been best.

Anglers can expect to see Apple Caddis, Blue Quills, Hendricksons, Quill Gordons, Stoneflies and small Caddisflies.

Our best pattern on the surface by far this week has been knock down duns. The ephemerella family of insects has a very high mortality rate during the hatch and the fish key in on the spent looking duns.

If you are planning on fishing this weekend stop in the Shop. We are fully stocked with the best local fly patterns. We are also closing out a lot of Fly Tying materials at up to 50% off.
