Wade Fishing

We recommend a wade trip for Anglers who are new to fishing the Upper Delaware System. All of our walk wades are instructional.  During a wade trip you can expect your guide to cover topics including fly fishing techniques, insect identification and fly choice, safe wading techniques, reading the water and more. All while you fish!

We spend the majority of our wade fishing time on the waters of the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. It is our goal to provide our clients with a good understanding of the access points and water types so that future visits will start with confidence.

For anglers who are experienced, walk wading with one of our guides can insure a rewarding day on the stream. Our guide staff is on the river daily and they know the areas with the best insect activity and fishing on any given day.

For the confident angler, our guides can offer instruction on many topics. Some of which include; river hydrology and fishing the different water types, entomology and stages of the hatch, daily and seasonal movements of Upper Delaware Trout and more.

Drift Boat Adventures

An Upper Delaware Float Trip is surely an adventure that will be remembered for a lifetime.  The sheer beauty of the River Valleys and the abundance of hungry Trout are a Fly Fisherman's Dream!

The Trips: We have many different float trip options available.

We are floating the East Branch, West Branch and Main Stem of the Delaware both Full and 1/2 day.

Our full day floats usually cover 8 to 10 miles per day. Our 1/2 day evening floats are usually 3 to 5 miles, but geared towards putting you in the perfect spot for the Evening Hatch and Spinner fall.

Our guides are experts at choosing the River and section to float based on the habitat of the insects that are hatching. It is our goal to keep you casting to feeding fish whenever possible.

Our guides will always have extra rods rigged and offer advice and techniques to entice the Upper Delaware Trout during the "non hatch" periods. By days end our guests will sometimes have fished from top to bottom with Dries, Nymphs and Streamers.

All of our guides have New, Modern McKenzie style drift boats for your comfort and safety.

Full Day Float $395.00  one or two anglers -  Evening Hatch Float $275.00 July and August

Smallmouth Bass and Walleye

During July and August our guides offer Small Mouth Bass Trips on the Main Stem of the Delaware. The Delaware River has a tremendous population of Small Mouth Bass and recently Field & Stream ranked the Delaware in the top 5 Small Mouth rivers in the country. During our Small Mouth Trips we also regularly encounter Walleye. Last year we had enough action with Walleye to include them as a target fish on these float trips.

These Float Trips are fun for the entire family! We recommend Small Mouth Fishing for introducing young anglers to river fishing. These fish are aggressive during the summer and the success rate is high. Our Small Mouth Trips are either Fly Tackle or Ultra Light Spin Tackle. All trips are priced based on two anglers. Additional anglers can be accommodated at an additional charge.

We offer both 5 hour trips and full day trips

5 Hours $275.00 Full Day $375.00

Ken Tutalo - Ken, the owner of the Baxter House River Outfitters has been fishing the waters of the Upper Delaware for over 35 years. Over the last 11 years while operating the Baxter House, Ken has shared his knowledge and love of the local waters with thousands of people.  When not guiding or helping customers in the Fly Shop, Ken can usually be found stalking the glass like pools of the East Branch for Wary Browns or wading the pockets of the Lower Beaverkill for Wild Rainbows.

During the winter months Ken is a regular at the Winter Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Shows where he demonstrates fly tying techniques and gives seminars on topics pertaining to the Upper Delaware River System and Fly Fishing for Trout.

Ken also publishes the daily fishing report on the Baxter House Website, which is read by thousands weekly from April through November. Ken has also appeared on Fly Fishing DVD’s and on television. His most recent project was the Discovery Channel Program “Fishing Road Trip USA” which appeared on Discovery Travel.

Rich Hudgens - Guide Rich will be starting his fifth year with us this spring. Rich has been fishing Catskill waters most of his life.  Ever since he got his hand on one of his father’s fly rods at age 14 Rich has been honing his skills.

Rich’s early introduction to Trout fishing came on the waters of the Esopus and Beaverkill. It wasn’t long however before Rich’s fishing habit had him expanding his range. After fishing the waters of the Delaware River Rich knew he found his true calling. Over time he learned the necessary skills to consistently fool the large and challenging Trout that live here. At this time he also realized that he had the knowledge and patience to teach others. For Rich becoming a guide was a natural progression.

Rich has been handling both Drift Boat and Walk Wade Trips for us. His never ending enthusiasm and hands on approach to instruction have been an instant hit with our customers!  Rich also regularly fishes the tributaries to Lake Ontario and he will be joining us this autumn during our Salmon and Steelhead camp and planning one of our Upcoming Trophy Brown Trout Trips.

Vincent Mirizio - Vincent will  be starting his third year of guiding with us this season. The last two years Guide Vincent was mostly a part time guide but this year we expect him to play a larger role with our guests. This year Vincent will be handling both walk wades and float trips from his new Custom Built Hyde Drift Boat.

On days that Vincent is not guiding he is usually fishing. And over the last few year he has logged a huge amount of river miles in the Upper Delaware region. This season Guide Vincent will floating our guests on the waters of both the East and West branches of the Delaware.

Vincent also loves to fish the tributaries of Lake Ontario. Last season he joined us for some of our trips for both Salmon and Trout. This season Vin will be helping out with our Salmon River day trips and Salmon /Steelhead camp.

Kevney Moses-   This season we are happy to introduce Kevney Moses to our staff. Kevney comes to us with a good amount of experience having worked several years guiding on some of Montana's top rivers. Below is a brief background on Kevney.

Growing up in Northern Virginia, Kevney's first experiences fly fishing were making tight casts to spooky Shenandoah Mountain Brookies.   Fueled by an insatiable zest for the sport, his tireless passion has taken him across the lower 48 in search of new water.  While studying at the University of Georgia, he spent his summers guiding in Big Sky, Montana.  Nurturing a love for writing and photography during college, Kevney has contributed fishing articles to local Montana Newspapers and thefin.com.  After graduating, he returned to Montana for his third season guiding on the Madison and Gallatin rivers.  At season's end, he relocated to Connecticut where he currently resides working in Landscape Architecture. With his love for teaching and by having the patience for introducing newcomers to the sport, he provides his clients with memories that will last a lifetime.

Bob Vellucci- Guide Bob is now with us on a part time basis. Bob comes from Clinton, New Jersey and learned to fly fish at a young age. Living among some of New Jersey's best Trout rivers, Bob has been able to hone his skills on a daily basis. Bob has also had the opportunity to fish for Trout out west and has spent summers fishing the waters of Montana.  Bob's other pursuits include fly tying, waterfowl hunting and just about any other outdoor pursuit.

Over the past few years Bob's hard work has earned him a solid reputation with our customers. Despite his young age Bob's knowledge of the Upper Delaware waters is on par with the seasoned veterans.

Darren Rist -   Guide Darren truly loves to be on the water. Darren has been fishing the waters of the Upper Delaware for 15 years.  When he's not out guiding, you can find him designing and selling hydraulic systems or casting a fly on the pool below his home on the West Branch of the Delaware. Darren is also the president of his local Trout Unlimited Chapter and an avid fly tyer. The following is guide Darren's response when asked, Why he became a Fly Fishing Guide? "Well, first I wanted to become a professional Trout bum, but my wife didn't approve. Guiding was the next best thing. Making a career out of something you love is the American Dream. I have a passion for fly fishing. I enjoy meeting interesting people. I like to teach. I don't mind untangling hundreds of leader knots a year. I guess it was just fate".

Currently Guide Darren is available on a part time basis.
