Upland Hunting Grouse, Woodcock, 2009
Our upland hunts are on the thousands of wild acres that are
within minutes of our lodge in Roscoe. These hunts are for wild birds! Over
the last few years our Grouse populations have been on the rise.
The mountain habitat in our river valleys is perfect habitat for these
elusive game birds. This same cover is a magnet for Woodcock during their
migration/ During open season we regularly find both birds in the same
areas.
This
past season was one of the best that I've seen in our area. During the early
season all of our hunts had double digit flushes and our success rate was pretty
good. The 2009 Grouse season starts on October 1st. The first week or so of the
season is usually full of action as the birds are unpressured and still in
family groups. It is not uncommon to flush coveys during the initial days of the
season. This past season all of our early season hunts had double digit flushes.
Despite the heavy action this time period is usually tough on the shooter. Our
forests are still in full foliage and unobstructed shots are rare at this time.
By mid October our wood lots will start to thin out. This is when our foliage will be in full color and the hunting conditions are perfect for both Hunters and Gun Dogs. Our local grouse will be feeding heavily at this time and hunter success rate improves steadily as the leaves fall.
All of our hunts are over our well trained pointing dogs. We also encourage our guests to bring their own dogs.

Upland Bird Hunting Packages-
One Day Hunts - Cost per Day $300.00 one or two hunters. Lodging is available at daily rate.
Weekend Hunt Package- $700.00 for one or two hunters. Weekend hunts include Friday and Saturday nights lodging and 2 full days of guided hunting. Our 2 Days hunts really let you immerse yourself in the autumn woods.
Mid Week Package- $650.00 for one or two hunters. Weekend hunts include Friday and Saturday nights lodging and 2 full days of guided hunting. Our 2 Days hunts really let you immerse yourself in the autumn woods.
Cast and Blast Package- $825.00 for one or two Hunters / Anglers. Cast and Blast packages include 2 nights lodging, One full day of Upland Hunting and One full day of Guided Fly Fishing.
